Cancellation & Damage Policy
Last updated October 2026
Cancellations
Cancel 24 hours or more before pickup for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours of pickup are not refunded. If 4oreign or a host cancels, you are refunded in full.
Security deposit
Weekly and monthly gig rentals are flat $400/week or $1,500/month with unlimited miles: no added service or protection fees, deposit hold, mileage charges or refuel charges. The deposit, mileage, fuel and paid protection rules below apply to daily rentals only.
Once your trip is paid, a refundable hold is placed on your card: $250 for Commuter, $500 for Deluxe and $1,000 for Exotic & Custom cars. It is released after the trip, minus any extra mileage or refuel charges. Your bank may take a few days to show the release.
Mileage and fuel
Each car has a daily mileage cap shown on its page; extra miles are charged at the listed per-mile rate. Return the car with at least 90% fuel or a refuel fee applies.
Protection plans and damage
Draft protection terms — pending legal and insurance review. The lists below describe proposed damage-fee waiver terms, not an insurance policy or confirmation that insurance is in place. Before launch, 4oreign must confirm the final terms with a licensed attorney and an insurance provider. A host's personal auto policy may exclude rentals and gig work.
- Minimum (+15% of trip price): proposed renter responsibility of up to $3,000 for eligible damage per trip. Excluded losses do not receive this cap.
- Standard (+25% of trip price): proposed renter responsibility of up to $500 for eligible damage per trip. Excluded losses do not receive this cap.
- Premier (+40% of trip price): proposed renter responsibility of up to $0 for eligible damage per trip. Excluded losses do not receive this cap.
Proposed eligible damage — all three daily plans
- Collision: accidental damage from a collision with another vehicle or object during the booked trip.
- Theft: vehicle theft or damage from attempted theft, provided the renter secured the vehicle, safeguarded its keys and reports the incident to police.
- Interior damage: sudden accidental damage to seats, upholstery or interior fittings; not routine cleaning, stains, odors or smoking damage.
- Tires: accidental tire damage from a road incident; not ordinary wear, pre-existing damage or damage caused by continued driving on a flat.
- Glass: accidental chips, cracks or breakage to the windshield, windows or mirrors during the trip.
The proposed eligible damage categories are the same for Minimum, Standard and Premier; their fees and renter responsibility caps differ. Premier's $0 cap would apply only to eligible damage, not to excluded losses or other daily rental charges.
Proposed exclusions — all three daily plans
- Off-road use: damage from driving on terrain or roads not intended for the vehicle.
- Racing: racing, track use, speed contests or stunt driving.
- Sub-renting: renting or lending the vehicle to someone outside the approved booking.
- Smoking: smoking, vaping, burns, ash damage and associated odors or cleaning.
- Unapproved drivers: damage while someone not approved for the trip operates the vehicle.
- Intentional damage or misuse: deliberate damage, impaired driving, unlawful use or reckless misuse.
- Wear and maintenance: normal wear, pre-existing damage, mechanical failure not caused by an eligible incident, or damage from ignoring warning lights.
- Other losses: personal belongings, injuries, liability to other people, fines, towing, lost income and loss of use are not included in this proposed vehicle-damage waiver.
Any responsibility for excluded losses must be determined under the final agreement and applicable law; the plan cap is not a promise of protection for those losses.
Photos and damage reports
Take all six condition photos at pickup and again at return: front, rear, driver front door, driver rear door, passenger front door and passenger rear door. These photos document the vehicle's condition before and after the trip.
Report damage through trip messages within 24 hours of the trip ending. For an accident or theft, seek emergency assistance when needed, notify the host promptly and obtain a police report when appropriate. Keep photos, incident details and any reports for review. A report does not automatically approve a claim or authorize a charge.
Gig rentals
Weekly and monthly gig rentals do not include these paid daily protection plans. Their flat rental price remains unchanged, with no added fees, deposit hold or post-trip rental extras. This is not a promise of insurance coverage; hosts must confirm that their insurance permits rentals and the intended gig work before offering a vehicle.
